Throughout the history, people have chosen to represent events of great significance that have changed the world as they have seen it. These events include political, scientific, social, technical and humanitarian breakthrough. Various ways of representation and commemoration have been used. Literal, as well as abstract representation has occupied both private and public space in our cities and countryside. Memorials vary in shape, size, colour, meaning, longevity, tradition, material, severity (austerity), comedy and subject.

The Memorial

Your first task is to describe the problems faced when creating a Memorial.

You need to find examples of ways in which people have made products which immortalize events.

You should write an explanation on why the problem is important, relating it to your experience.

You should write an explanation on why the problem is important, relating it to society.

You should write about how and why solving this problem is relevant to the Real World?

You should write appropriate questions that will guide your investigation.

Some of the questions that are considered are:
What are some of the different ways in which I could make a Memorial?
What materials would be suitable for presentation? Etc
    Who is it for?
What do others expect from a memorial? (Interview with the client is for this purpose ...)

You may included surveys, questionnaires etc... that you can use in the investigation section and explain how the survey/questionnaire responses are analysed.

Why a Memorial?

Since the earliest Cave Paintings, people have sought to record important events so that others might know about them. Why do you think think this might be?

If you could single out one event from the 20th Century worth remembering... what would it be and why?
