The End of the Road

45 minutes out of Cusco and the tarmac turns to gravel. A few hours later it's just a mud track. After a grueling drive through the Cloud Forest we reached the pier. A thrilling canoe ride brought us to the Manu Centre just before dark.

Cusco to Machu Picchu Peublo

After a few hours sleep we left Lima for the short flight to Cusco. On arrival we picked up the Minibus that drove us to Urubamba. Here we stopped for lunch at the most amazing restaurant - home cooked food laced with a herb called Wakatai - a bit like Chervil, Mint and Corriander! We also encountered the hairless Peruvian Dog - more on him later.

After lunch we drove on through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo. We stopped to watch Local Textiles being woven and dyed by hand and to see some Inca Ruins. Walking up the steps we all realised the effects of the altitude.

At Ollantaytambo we picked up the train that runs through the valley to Machu Picchu Peublo... and possibly the most luxurious hotel you could imagine in such a remote spot.
