Grade 9SDU Biology - Tuesday 24th May 2011
Today the class completed the slide drawings from the banta viewers on Cell division and Early embryo development - The first stages of zygotic division. Whilst waiting to swap slides they read from the book "Body Changes".

Grade 10E Biology - Monday 23rd May 2011
Today most of the class were working on the school play so those that remained watched the film that I have requested all the grade 10's to watch on Iplayer.
Homework
We got to minute 49.12 for those who were there and need to carry on watching it to the end for homework. Those whe who were at the play i would like you to watch this in your own time sometime over the next week.

Grade 11DPHL Biology - Monday 23rd May 2011
Today, we started to review and consolidate work students have already done on Plant Science. To start with the class did a short practical using Potometers and small branches with leaves. They measured the rate of transpiration in different conditions, using a hair dryer at different settings.Factors that affect the rate of transpiration due to the rate of evaporation, in plants are Relative Humidity, temperature and movement of air.
We then discussed lab reports and the class were given their lab report folders and asked to evaluate their lab reports to date and make comments for each one on what they should improve upon.
Finally we started to go over the content of the Plants science topic which we will complete on Wednesday.

Grade 10 E Biology - Friday 20th May 2011
Today the class used visking tubing to model one of the activities in the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney where Glucose is reabsorbed by the body. Today they only had time to take down the data. We will discuss its implications and process it to extrapolate what happens to the glucose levels in the urine when someone has diabetes.

Please make sure that you have completed the summary on the film about Diabetes; most people have handed these in but there are still a few of you who still have to complete this.
There is the next in the series of Iside the Human body - From first to Last ; this has a large section that relates to the homeostasis we have been studying it. I would also like you to take an hour to watch this on BBC Iplayer.
