The Trading Game-Letters of Application

Hi Grade 5,
Tonight you need to write a 'letter of application' for the job that you would like at Big Buy. Please keep reading to see an example of what your letter might look like. Remember to include your experience, your education and profiles, skills and attitudes that you can bring to the job!

Dear Big Buy

I would like to apply for the position of a Production Manager at your company Big Buy. I feel that I would be a desirable candidate for the position.

I have excellent communication skills. I have experience presenting in Town Meetings and I am able to speak loudly and clearly in front of others. I always finish my homework on time, which shows a lot of commitment. I am also a good leader. I helped my group to finish our science experiment during our 'How the World Works' unit of inquiry.

I have attended 2 different schools. I am able to make new friends and I am open-minded to others. I think I can work well with others.

Sincerely,
Suzie Smith

Dear Big Buy,
I would like to apply for the position of accountant with your company. I think I would do a good job in this role.

I am confident working with numbers. I enjoy math at school and I am committed to learning more about this subject.

I am organized and able to keep my work in one place. My cubby and tray are neat and tidy.

Thank you for considering me.

Sincerley,
Suzie Smith

The students got into groups to share their responses to this book. They were asked to identify any commonalities from the groups discussion. They identified issues, thoughts and feelings they had about the story and the portrayal of the characters and events.

Each group then selected an area they wanted to explore further from the discussions as a result of their reading.

Systems and Economy

IMG_0085.jpgCentral Idea:
People have developed organized systems for exchanging goods and services. The students have been exploring systems and inquiring into trading processes. This week they have enthusiastically taken up the challenge of "The Trading Game."
The students have been grouped into countries and the first thing they had to do was devise a system for production of their food. The second stage is for each member of their community to adopt a role and the responsibilities that the role entails. ind out more from the student responses and reflections.

IMG_0087.jpgThink and reflect about:

How effective is your team and why?
How did you select peoples roles within your community?
How have your group made decisions?
What skills are evident within your group?
