Grade 8: Folder Guidance
Some guidance for the interfaces projects – getting your DT folders right:
- The statement of problem
- Who are the disability group you hope to work with?
- What specific physical issues affect their use of IT systems?
- Which aspect of these seem most appropriate to address in relation to the Data retrieval system you are designing?

Design Brief
First of all what this isn’t:
It isn’t a description of the projected design. Your solution should be arrived at by a process of research and brainstorming, selection (with the problem guiding you), refining and testing.
What it is
A design brief should state in the broadest possible terms, which aspect of the problem you seek to address, by designing a physical interface device and a Database information retrieval system.
Research and planning phase
Your intial research into the problem counts towards this.
You should also show that you’ve looked more closely into the specific issues affecting your chosen group as well as the existing solution to their problems (and made an evaluation of these in the context of your design brief)
A record of your initial brainstorming for ideas (this should have generated at least 3 initial responses)
Some research into the processes and material for Your solutions (not just a copy of the list of processes Mr Plummer gave you).
An account of your selection of your favoured design solution from the brainstorm. The one you will pursue (this should be justified by appropriateness, feasibility and its usability for the group).
