SketchUp Intro

Watch the Video called "The SketchUp Show #1 - Model a Lantern.mp4" - there's a copy on each machine in /Users/Shared. You can alway download this from www.go-2-school.

Have a go at following the Tutorial - even if you can only complete the main shape. You may need to watch the video several times, watching out for the Modifier Keys the narrator uses. He makes it look a lot easier than it really is!

Materials List and Production Plans

Middle School students who are wrapping up their projects should have a look at instructables, the collaborative site with step-by-step instructions for all kinds of projects. Notice the way that they are very specific about their materials and tools, as well as responsive to feedback from the community. These are all things to keep in mind as you finish up your paperwork with a materials list and a production plan.

Statement of problem and design brief

Statement of Problem & Design brief:
You should begin by explaining the task you have chosen or the problem you hope to solve by designing and making your product. One way of doing this is to clearly explain the factors you need to consider when designing your product.

  • The purpose of the product.

  • The type of people who would use the product.

  • The environment the product would be designed for.

  • Any constraints or special considerations which will influence your design.

  • How the product would be manufactured commercially.
