SketchUp Intro

Watch the Video called "The SketchUp Show #1 - Model a Lantern.mp4" - there's a copy on each machine in /Users/Shared. You can alway download this from www.go-2-school.

Have a go at following the Tutorial - even if you can only complete the main shape. You may need to watch the video several times, watching out for the Modifier Keys the narrator uses. He makes it look a lot easier than it really is!

A brief recap on the commands we have covered. Additional reference is included in the extended text. The most essential command is to use Secure Shell to access the remote machine. The syntax for this is :

ssh username@ipaddress

For example, when a user (sally) wants to connect to a machine with the IP address 10.10.0.5, the command is:

ssh sally@10.10.0.5

Grade 7: Phone of the Future Brief

This project requires you to create a prototype mobile phone that you imagine will be used in 5-10 years time. You will research into how mobile phone technology has developed and where it is headed.

Guiding question: How reliant are we on our mobile phones today?

For your 'Phone of the Future' project you will be required to do the following.

Research what kind of features and shapes mobile phones had 5 years ago

Compare your findings with the mobile phones of today. Have the features changed much?

Brainstorm what kind of features or shapes the phones of the future will have. Will it play music and videos? Will it connect wirelessly with your refigerator?

After planning we will begin to model our phones in Pro Desktop. Here are some useful websites to help you along the way:

Engadget Mobile - Mobile phone news

Nokia - A complete listing of all their mobile phones.

Wikipedia entry on mobile phones
